There is a lot wrong with Britain today, which has been allowed to build up over decades of neglect, divisiveness, dishonesty, self and vested interests, and corruption.
Britain is a divided country, not only nationally like Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England, the population itself is divided, families are divided in opinions, morals and politics.
If I was Prime Minister tomorrow, there would have to be a rather large new broom sweep approach, in order to unify separate factions and make people proud to be British once again.
Essentially it is a matter of honesty and accountability.
In my view there has to be a series of public judicial enquiries into activities, by individuals and organisations. These enquiries would have the broadest of remits, with Queen’s Counsel appointed to present the prosecution case and a jury of members of the public to find on the evidence. The judgement would be made on the balance of probabilities and not beyond all reasonable doubt, burden of proof. Individuals would be subpoenaed to attend and perjury or non attendance would be a separate arrestable offence.
There would be a team of investigators appointed to gather evidence for each enquiry.
The scope of these enquiries will look into the activities of :
the Leave Campaign in 2016. Scrutiny of the Individual Activities in that campaign. The Finance of that Campaign.
2. the Brexit Deal 2020 and whether it was in the National interest and who benefited from it.
3.The Handling of the Coronavirus Pandemic, by Government. The Role of the Health Secretary and the Prime Minister, was all due diligence taken to preserve life.
4.The Privatisation and handing out of public service contracts to individuals, by whom and who to and the payments made.
5.The Role of the Press and TV News / Current Affairs
The honest coverage of news and events.
6. The Role of ERG
7. The Role of 55 Tufton St
8.The Role of Foreign Interference in Britain, particularly Russia and China.
9.The Role and Activities of the House of Commons and House of Lords and it’s public accountability in serving the public’s interests. 10. The Role of Social Media in influencing decisions contrary to the public's interests.
Where evidence shows light on vested and self interests that were not in the public’s interest nor in the nation’s interest, that evidence shall be acted on accordingly and the person or person’s charged with misleading the public and or corruption.
Misdeeds proven against individuals, body corporates or organisations will be punishable by unlimited fines, seizure of assets and or imprisonment for up to 10 years, plus a life ban on holding public or similar office.
These measures with sweeping powers of search and arrest would be empowered by a Public Accountability Act.
Under that act there will be a new offence of misleading the public by any means, by any person of persons. Punishable by unlimited fines and or imprisonment. This offence would be triable by private or public prosecution.
There would me a new Independent Office of Public Accountability created with unlimited powers to obtain evidence for the courts to adjudicate on. Allan Sharpe, former Govt Law Enforcement Officer and BBCTV Current Affairs Producer Director.
