Have you ever believed in People Power?
The Unions got rid of Callaghan. My TV programme got rid of Virginia Bottomley. The Poll Tax riots got rid of Thatcher, after she got rid of the unions.
In my TV life, it was always size matters, get enough people together in a common purpose to get a result , justice and make a program as well .
Change does not happen overnight. But IF enough people band together, under a common purpose, a focused objective, anything is possible. All you need is an unrelenting desire.
A member said to me Facebook cannot make change, one has to go door to door canvassing. I said that was pre 2004. We are now in 2022. The Russians used social media to make people believe in Brexit 2016. Boris has robot artificial intelligence profiles for one third of his social media supporters. He uses various social media platforms to get his propaganda over daily. Facebook UK has 44 million users each with an average of 338 friends. At one touch of an icon, thousands can be reached.
Sometimes, like today and yesterday when the coronavirus figures I unearth fill me with incandescent rage, fuel is then added to the fire, when I read the merchant banker Javid telling me "nothing to worry about". If I wanted a bank balance would I go to see a doctor ? 185,000 dead, 20 million ill, and more to come. Of course People Power will only begin IF others are equally angry enough to do something. To do something radical under ONE umbrella, a people power umbrella, not divided traditional politics. It is division and betrayal that has caused the mess Britain is in. Boris's Brexit divided the nation, even families, even my own family. You cannot have the main opposition party supporting the Govt over Brexit, it is sheer nonsense.
So what would People Power hold up as an umbrella, with a focus?
The answer: CHANGE.
But Change is not simple, not one dimension. There has to be a series of changes to bring an end result. Boris goes, Boris & Co are arrested. Parliament is suspended. A People Power Party is created, assumes governance in advance of elections. It meets the Queen. It holds a series of public enquiries, it lists demands for Parliamentary reform, a written constitution, control of the media. It forces the resignation of the ERG, and 1922 Committee. 55 Tufton St is made into a public awareness museum.
Wow, a tall order. But sticking to safe traditional political parties is not going to give you the change that is required. Not that Berlin wall. Not Perestroika. In 1215 the Barons tried with King John. 1651 Cromwell tried.
IN my lifetime I have known 2 decent PMs's Harold Wilson and Tony Blair, both of whom were far from perfect , but at least the cared about their people.
In my view, that is what Westminster has to demonstrate, by the people for the people. It does not at present, it has not for more than a decade. With Labour, on the side of Brexit, I cannot see any improvement. Maybe People Power can deal with a handful of decent current MPs, and not be fobbed off.
Of course People power will need financial backing, crowd funding, the will and desire of the people, the determination to get it's goals. It will also need figureheads, popular figureheads to unite the numbers, the differing factions.
Britain needs something to unite the people.
Maybe this could be achieved at the ballot box. It would have to start on social media before taking to the streets. Maybe it requires a poll tax riot mark 2, without alienating the rest of Britain. It would need city centre masses and public addresses.
IN any event, People Power is not one man's dream, size matters. BUT after almost 3 years of Facebook daily blogs, exposure of outright lies, costly mistakes and deliberate corruption, it is the conclusion I have come to.
